The Vancouver Canucks have traded forward Daniel Sprong to a rival.

Daniel Sprong's brief time with the Vancouver Canucks organization has come to an end after just nine games with the British Columbia club this season and he's on his way to one of his former clubs.

Daniel Sprong traded by Vancouver

In a social media post on Friday night, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've traded forward Daniel Sprong to their Pacific Northwest rival, the Seattle Kraken, in exchange for future considerations.

Sprong, 27, signed a one-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks worth $975,000 back on July 20th and was expected to give the team some much needed depth. Sprong appeared in just nine games with the Canucks this season where he registered three points (one goal, two assists), two penalty minutes and was a minus-two.

The Amsterdam, Netherlands native found himself in the press box on a few occasions and during last night's game in Los Angeles, he played just 9:32, his second-lowest ice time total of the season.

Sprong now returns to a team he spent parts of two seasons with during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons where he put up 52 points (27 goals, 25 assists), 14 penalty minutes and was a plus-seven in 82 games.

With Daniel Sprong now off the Vancouver Canucks' roster, it opens up a spot for Dakota Joshua to return to the lineup and he could potentially make his season debut on Saturday night after missing training camp and the first part of the campaign due to treatments for testicular cancer. Another possibility to take Daniel Sprong's roster spot is 2022 first-round pick Jonathan Lekkerimaki who's having a great start to the season down in Abbotsford.

The Vancouver Canucks return to action on Saturday night at Rogers Arena against the Edmonton Oilers. Puck drop is set for 7 pm PT on CBC and Sportsnet.
