BREAKING | Rick Tocchet confirms the new leadership group
The Canucks traded away their captain earlier this week and there's been a lot of rumblings around who will be the one stepping into Horvat's shoes.
Rick Tocchet addressed the matter and stated that there wouldn't be anyone taking the 'C' for now. Though he did not close the door on naming a captain this year.
Tocchet was on 'Halford and Brough' this morning and stated that Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson would definitely be getting letters moving forward:
"If we're going to set the bar high here in Vancouver with the Canucks, those two guys have to be involved in the leadership group. They have to you know, every day when they come in, they gotta set the standard, and I'm gonna really lean on those guys Those guys have been in the league three, four years now. They're premier players in the league, and I think it's important that they have a voice and they're part of this leadership group going forward."
Obviously he holds both Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes to a pretty high level. He stated that J.T. Miller, Luke Schenn and Oliver Ekman-Larsson were also viewed as leaders in the room.
Thus far this season, OEL, Miller and Myers had been wearing the A's for the alternates. The Canucks are now taking a new turn in their history and everything points to the young guns taking over. Do you like that Pettersson and Hughes are getting more responsibilities within the team?
