LATEST | Former Canucks General Manager hired by Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames are set to finalize their management group this week and it's expected that Craig Conroy will be promoted to General Manager, while franchise legend Jarome Iginla will be joining in an advisory role.
Meanwhile, a name very familiar to Vancouver Canucks fans will also be joining the Flames' management group.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, former Vancouver Canucks General Manager Dave Nonis has been hired by the Flames in a Senior Management Role.
"As has been reported, expect the Flames to make the Conroy promotion to GM official today. Dave Nonis will be added in Sr management, while the search for a head coach will commence immediately." Dreger said.
Nonis, 56, was hired as the Canucks' General Manager in 2004, replacing Brian Burke, and held the role until April 2008. During his time at the helm, Vancouver made the playoffs once, which came in 2006-07 when the Canucks finished first in the Northwest Division.
Among the moves Dave Nonis made as General Manager in Vancouver was acquiring Roberto Luongo from the Florida Panthers, as well as drafting Corey Schneider, Alex Edler and Jannik Hansen in 2004 and Mason Raymond in 2005, all of whom had significant impacts for the Canucks.
