MAJOR | NHL franchise minority stake sold for record valuation
According to Sportico, the Tampa Bay Lightning are on the verge of selling a minority stake to Arctos Sports Partners at a valuation of $1.4 billion USD.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have been owned by Jeffery Vinnik since 2010 when he purchased the franchise for $170 million USD. The current value of the franchise has gone up for a number of factors that have occurred over the last 13 years.
Among the factors that have gone into account when determining the value of the Lightning's franchise includes the team's on-ice success in recent years. Since 2010, the team has won two Stanley Cups and have been to the Stanley Cup Final four times - 2015, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
In recent days, we've also seen the Ottawa Senators sell for a record price of $950 million and with a minority stake being sold by the Lightning, other owners around the NHL must be wondering what they could get for their franchise if they ever decided to sell.
