It's no secret that the team intends to free cap space. Some contracts are currently extremely hurtful to the team and it may be all due to previous mistakes by the former management. Though new information has popped up today and it's been revealed that the team will study the possibly of buyouts at the end of the season.
Contracts like Tyler Myers, that carries a $6M AAV. Oliver Ekman-Larsson carrying a $8.25M AAV. Tanner Pearson carrying a $3.25M cap hit or even Conor Garland that carries a $4.9M AAV. All possibilities will be on the table. Bo Horvat being a UFA, Andrei Kuzmenko and Ethan Bear will also require new deals. This money is most definitely needed.
