NHL insider Elliotte Friedman dropped a bomb regarding the Vancouver Canucks and the Ottawa Senators, reporting that the two teams discussed swapping defensemen.

On the latest episode of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Sportsnet's Jeff Marek and Friedman discussed the rumours:

''I do think [the Senators] and Vancouver talked about a Tyler Myers, Nikita Zaitsev-type trade.''

''I do think the two teams talked about it. It would give Vancouver a bit of cap relief and Ottawa help on defence. I don't know where it stands right now or if it could be revived, but it was at some level discussed.''

However, the guys from Donnie and Dhali also discussed the Myers-Zaitsev reports, sharing that they:

''Don't think it ever got close.''

Zaitsev, 31, has a cap hit of $4.5 million through the 202324 season with the Senators, and like Myers, his contract includes a ten-team no-trade clause. Myers, 32, is signed for the next two seasons with a cap hit of $6 million.

Myers has four assists, a +1 rating, 35 PIMs and 16 shots through 16 games this season. At the same time, Zaitsev has appeared in six games with one assist, a -3 rating, 6 PIMs and two shots. He's currently in the AHL with the Belleville Senators.
