At only 20-years-old, and the former 15th overall draft pick, Jonathan Lekkerimaki still has not seen any NHL ice time in his young professional career, but after an an amazing training camp, and his hot start to the AHL season, he is showcasing to Patrik Allvin that he could be ready for an opportunity at the highest level.
With 6 games under his belt in Abbottsford, he has 4 goals and 2 assists for 6 points, which impressive in itself, his tenacity to be aggressive and make opportunities is what makes him stand apart.
Since Lekkerimaki made his debut this season, he is now tied in goals and third in points, but leads the entire AHL in shots on goal with 34. He may need to develop his defensive chops, as he supports a -5 rating, but one thig is for sure, his offence is undeniable.
Raty came into camp this season with the Vancouver Canucks with pretty low expectations, especially as a 2nd round draft pick, but the 21-year-old has exceeded expectations after he made cracked the opening night roster this year. Unfortunately, he was sent down after 3 games but has not skipped a beat since joining the AHL. In 8 games, he has scored 3 goals and 4 assists for 7 points.
The team showed a lot of belief in him after they waived Nils Aman a couple days ago. Even though Aman cleared, if he wasn't, they were baking on the fact that Raty is able to step right into the Canucks lineup whenever an opportunity comes into fruition.
