When the Los Angeles Kings put former top prospect forward Arthur Kaliyev on waivers Sunday, many teams were lining up to claim him, including the Vancouver Canucks, but unfortunately the New York rangers swooped in first and got him.

The Vancouver Canucks have been struggling offensively the last handful of games, and with the drama between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, it was believed that Patrik Allvin was targeting a forward in the trade market.

But, a unique opportunity arose for the Vancouver Canucks when the Arthur Kaliyev was placed on waivers for the purpose of sending him to the American Hockey league (AHL) as a trade may have not been the only option to find a young forward.

Nonetheless, the New York Rangers claimed him first, getting a solid young forward and holding very little risk as he is making only the league-minimum salary at $825,000.

The Rangers were seventh in the waiver priority list nearly midway through a disappointing season that has included them losing 16 of their past 22 games to go from solidly in a playoff position to tied with the Islanders for last place in the Metropolitan Division. - Sportsnet

The former 2019 second-round pick has 35 goals and 26 assists for 71 point over his 197 NHL regular season and playoff games.

Although his time in the Kings organization has not panned out like wither side wanted, sometimes all that is need for a young player to turn his career around is a an opportunity in a different club.

Kaliyev has not played in a single game this season after breaking his collar bone during this years training camp.
