Contract Extension in Doubt - Vancouver Canucks reportedly considering moving on from head coach Rick Tocchet
NHL insider Pierre LeBrun has reported that Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet may not have the desire to return to behind the bench next years as his contract is expiring at the end of this season.
After winning the Jack Adams award for the NHL best coach, it is hard to believe that his future with the Vancouver Canucks may be in doubt, but with their issues the team is facing this year, he may not be willing to exercise his contract extension.
A clause in his contract states that both the Canucks and Rick Tocchet have to agree for as a mutual option for next season, making it as an agreement in order for him to return behind the bench next season.
Rick Tocchet and the Canucks May Not Want to Exercise His Return
«Coaches work to the end of their deals all the time before signing extensions," LeBrun wrote. »It could very well be that the Canucks extend him at some point.»But if this drama-filled season doesn't straighten itself out, how does Tocchet view things in Vancouver? Just something to file away.»
With a dram filled season with off ice issues and also as a team sitting with a record of 19-13-10, the Canucks are now on the outside looking in on a playoff spot, and if the season ends on a low note, Rick Tocchet could be inclined to steer away from returning.
