Vancouver Canucks draft 2023 3rd-round draft pick, top defensive prospect and recent Team Canada World Junior representee Sawyer Mynio has been dealt in a blockbuster trade in the WHL.
Right after Team Canada's devastating loss to Czechia in the World Junior Hockey Championships in Ottawa, Canada, Vancouver Canucks prospect Sawyer Mynio did not even get the chance to unpack as he has bee dealt from the Seattle Thunderbirds to the Calgary Hitman.
Not originally making the final roster of Team Canada, an injury to Matthew Schaefer opened up a spot for
Mynio, who did not have the most impressive 3 games.
After being drafted 89th overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, the 19-year-old d-man has really continued to impress the Vancouver Canucks.
After being named co-captain of the Thunderbirds at the start of the year, in 18 games this season, Mynio has recorded 5 goals and 14 assists for 19 points and a +/- rating of +1.
The Calgary Hitmen have acquired Vancouver Canucks prospect Sawyer Mynio from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for Linden Burrett, Sawyer Mayes and four picks in the 2025 and 2026 WHL Prospects Drafts.
It is clear that NHL teams are not the only organizations making a major push in order to make a run during the playoffs.
After this trade, the Hitmen now have six drafted players on their roster, including
Carter Yakemchuk, who was a top-ten pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
Playing along side some of the best players in the Western Hockey League, Mynio will have a great opportunity to continue in his development and impress the Canucks as he transitions into professional hockey.
