Vancouver Canucks Have Major Decision to Make with Brock Boeser After Contract Demands Become Public
A recent report has been made public as Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser is looking for a contract north of $8 million AAV, and now Patrik Allvin has a big decision to make.
At the end of the 2024-2025 NHL season, Vancouver Canucks top goal scorer Brock Boeser will be looking for a contract that will call for a significant upgrade, and NHL Insider Nick Kypreos has the inside scoop.
Vancouver, eyeing to compete for a Stanley Cup with a core locked in of Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller and Quinn Hughes, have a tough decision to make on Brock Boeser. He led the team with 40 goals last season, but will he continue on as part of this core? - Kypreos After a big 40-goal season and being a 2x All-Star, Boeser is now currently in the final season of his 3-year contract worth $19,950,000, which is broken down to carry an AAV (average annual value) of $6.65 million.
It is clear that he wants a lot more...
Brock Boeser has some serious contract demands if he is to sign with the Vancouver Canucks
Originally, Insiders like Elliotte Friedman have compared Boeser and what his next contract will be to that of Florida Panthers forward Carter Verhaeghe, who locked up an 8-year contract extension worth $7M AAV back in September.
But now, reported by NHL insider Nick Kypreos, the 27-year-old winger is looking for a a max length deal (8 years) worth north of $8 million dollars per season, comparing him to the likes of Jake Guentzel, but the Canucks are not too thrilled about giving him that much.
With Jake Guentzel pushing the value of UFA scoring wingers up, Boeser is looking for eight years, north of $8 million AAV range, and Vancouver isn't yet prepared to pay him what his projected value is. If no contract extension is on the way, the idea of losing him for nothing in free agency isn't all that appealing either. Canucks management isn't one to sit around and have been rather busy traders in recent seasons. Until an extension is signed, Boeser will be a trade candidate to watch this season.
As we don't believe he will be a trade token this season, it is surprising to say the last that the conversation to extend Brock Boeser has not been progressed forward.
Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin has even stated that he wants to keep Boeser and will take care of him if he shows the team he has another gear inside him, which he clearly showed last season.
«He basically said to Boeser, 'give us another level and we're going to take care of you.' So now the challenge is on Boeser to go to the next level.»
Boeser hasn't really slowed down to much, even after coming back from a head injury, in 20 games this season, he's recorded 7 goals and 11 assists for 18 points with a +/- rating of -4.
