Boudreau reveals wholesome details of his last moments with the players and unfolds his plans for the future
Everybody with a little hockey knowledge knew it was coming, Bruce knew it was coming. Nobody was surprised when the news came on Friday that Bruce had been let go.
Boudreau gave an exclusive interview to Michael Russo of the Athletic and quite the details came out of that story. Bruce isn't blind to what happened around him and never thought he (and the Canucks' fans) will ever forget how this relationship ended. Bruce didn't fail to point out the positivity of it.
«Very rarely do coaches in any sport get a chance to say goodbye to their players.»
Boudreau was glad that he had the chance to thank his players after the hard-fought loss to the Oilers' on Saturday. The post-game meetings held in the locker room between the coaching staff and the players were one he'll never forget and to quote Russo's article:
» And then to see the emotion, I've never seen anything like it. All of us, almost all the players and me, were crying in the room. It was crazy. Like, I mean, you'd have to see it to believe it because it's hard to believe it just saying it.»
Boudreau didn't fail to mention that the emotions were high that night and that even one (high-profile) player was uncontrollably crying when he came into the coaches' office.
«On Sunday, Boudreau got a slew of texts from his players, including «the most beautiful text» from sometimes-maligned J.T. Miller» See that Bruce singled out Miller's text, it's probably because the man showed that he cares and had good intentions. Boudreau's wife tweeted earlier today the following, which once again showed, just how great of a professional he is even though he clearly owed the Canucks nothing:
Next on Boudreau's road will most likely be a return to the screens. It was pointed out that he'd already been offered different positions and that he had talked to the NHL Network to take the spot he had left open when he came to Vancouver.
Boudreau ended with kind words for the fans that treated him so nicely for the short time he was with the club.
