Vancouver Canucks legends pay tribute to Alex Edler with special retirement video
In what was an amazing 17 year career in the NHL, 15 of which were with the Vancouver Canucks, legends and Alumni have sent a heartfelt tribute video for Alex Edler's retirement that may make you shed a tear.
"You were there for the young guys. You were a leader in the locker room. On the ice you played the complete game."
Yesterday (October 10th), Canucks legend Alex Edler officially signed a one-day contract to retire as Canuck after spending the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Kings. He is widely known as one of the most accomplished and loved players in Vancouver Canucks history. The team will honor and pay tribute to his commitment tonight (October 11th), when they take on the Philadelphia Flyers.
Canucks Alumni pay tribute to Alex Edler in special retirement video
Legends such as Kevin Bieksa, Markus Naslund, Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Roberto Luongo and many more, all sent in video's describing their favorite memories with Edler. They shared stories on what made him such an amazing human being and teammate.
Alex Edler played 15 of his 17 season apart of the Canucks organization and did more than just man the blue line. He set franchise records in games played with 925, goals (99), assists (310), points (409), powerplay points (177), shots on goal (2021), hits (1,432), and finally, achieving the most blocked shots with (1,732).
When asked about his career in a sit down interview today, he talked about these accomplishments said that the records he broke will be surpassed shortly by current captain Quinn Hughes.
«I have those records because I was here for so long. He's going to break every record cause that's how good he is. They're going to be gone very soon, and he deserves that. You all see him out there. He's a top player.»
He surely will be missed but he everyone here at Canucks Daily wish him a most well deserved retirement.
